Ian Manock has been involved in Disaster/Emergency Management since 1979.
Ian started off his working career as a pilot with the Royal Air Force in 1975. In 1979 he joined the Royal Hong Kong Police as an Inspector, where his more formal involvement with Disaster/Emergency management began, usually in the response roles during the aftermath of Typhoons. Ian spent 13 years with the RHKP and served for the majority of that period in the Marine Police, commanding a variety of offshore patrol vessels and specialist units, including Criminal Investigation, Anti-Illegal Immigration, Counter Terrorism and Counter Smuggling.
In 1991 Ian joined the Tasmania State Emergency Service as an Assistant Regional Emergency Management Officer, providing management and training support to SES volunteer units within the Northern Region of Tasmania. Specialisations included Land Search and Rescue, Road Accident Rescue, Disaster Rescue, Communications, Land and Nautical Navigation, as well as provision of emergency management training, advice and consultation to government and private industry. In 1997 Ian became the Regional Emergency Management Officer and took over the main role of providing emergency management advice, assistance and training/education to Local and State Government organisations and private industry.
In 1999 Ian joined Charles Sturt University as a lecturer within their undergraduate and post-graduate emergency management programs (which were developed and provided by the Tasmania SES initially and transferred to CSU in 1997). In 2005 Ian took over the coordination of the emergency management courses at CSU in addition to his lecturing duties.
Ian has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, majoring in Emergency Management and a Master’s degree in Emergency Management, both from Charles Sturt University.
