Enrolments for Tai Poutini Polytechnic’s long awaited Diploma in Applied Emergency Management (Level 6) are now open!
This programme of study requires students to complete 150 credits from the compulsory and elective lists of the qualification, of which 80 credits must be at level 6 or above. There are 8 compulsory papers including two papers from the New Zealand Diploma in Business totalling 100 credits. The remaining 50 credits can be made up from a range of elective papers or by having credit recognised for a range of related qualifications or university papers.
It is intended that students will complete this qualification over a period of 2-4 years in a part time capacity with most of the core papers being delivered through a short block course followed by online learning. The qualification can be awarded with Distinction or Merit where students’ grades meet certain criteria.
The qualification is primarily aimed at senior emergency management volunteers, practicing emergency managers without qualifications and allied service personnel wanting a career change; however, anyone who meets the entry requirements can enrol.
This programme anticipates the development of MCDEM’s competency banding project and its content will be reviewed when this information becomes available. This will help to ensure that students achieve documented core emergency management competencies through completion of this programme.
Enrolments for the July 2009 intake close on 12 June 2009.
